Manali Attraction - Bijli Mahadev Temple
Bijli Mahadev Temple is located across the river Beas,an altitude of about 2,438 m.It is dedicated to Lord Shiva. This temple is also famous as 'Temple of Lightening’. It believed that the lightning that the staff attracts are the blessings of Mahadev (Shiva) himself.
Temple Design
It is a ‘Kash’ style temple and it's architecture is Pahari style. In this temple there is a stone phallus was enshrined inside the temple and named as Bijleshwar Mahadev or Bijli Mahadev. Bijli Mahadev Temple door frames have delicate and superb carvings.
History
It believed the Maharishi Vashishta prayed to Lord Rudra. He prayed that to absorb electric current within himself. Lord Rudra happy his prayed and given the vardan to absorbed the electricity current within himself. and saving humankind. After this event it believed this place has take the place confluence of Parvati and Beas rivers.
After some time a temple was construction at the sight, in commemoration of the event.
Another anecdote is that after every 2 years, 'lingam' gets reduced to pieces. when a frightful lightning get here. After this event temple priest collects all those pieces and puts them into satto and butter. It said that lightning of this temple attracts the tall staff for divine blessings in the form of lightning.
