Location
Tara Devi Temple is located at around 11 kilometers from Shimla and situated on the Tara Devi Mountain between Shoghi and Shimla. This shrine can be visited while traveling on the Kalka - Shimla National Highway.
About Temple
Some people say that temple was built approximately 250 years ago and it has a great spiritual and heritage value. With the majestic forested mountains around, this place has high spiritual value.
Histroy
According to that legend, Sen Dynasty a king of Bengal visited Himachal Pradesh. The king was carrying his personal family idol around the upper torso of his arm.
One fine day, when Raja Bhupendra Sen went for hunting in the dark and dense forests of Juggar and fell asleep and had a dream. In his dream he saw Ma Tara, Lord Hanuman and her consorts Dwarpal Bhairav. who desired that she should be available for the public to pray and seek blessings. To Inspired by his dream, immediately the Maharaja donated a big piece of land (Approx 50 bighas) to build a temple dedicated to Goddess Tara.
When temple was built then for people worship, there was wooden idol of the Goddess was installed. After Sen Dynasty gradually improved the structure and Goddess had wished that she be installed at the top of a hill known as Tarav Parvat. In this temple Raja Balbir Sen commissioned the 'Ashtadhatu' deity which is still seen today. This fascinating temple is surrounded by beautiful landscapes and green trees.
