Shimla Attraction - Jakhu Temple or Jakhoo temple
Jakhu Temple is located at the top of the famous Jakhu Hill, Shimla. Jakhu Temple is dedicated to lord Hanuman or monkey God, Hanuman. It is located two and a half Kms from the ridge Shimla on the Jakhoo Hill. It is situated on the highest peak in Shimla and located at a height of 2455 meters at Jakhu Hill. The statue of hanuman idol is situated at an altitude of 8,500 feet from the sea level. It has been built at a cost of Rs 1.5 crore with weighs 1,500 tonnes. At the temple there are a lots of monkeys looking for sweets (parsad) from strangers/tourists.

History of Temple
It believed that Jakhu Temple or Jakhoo temple existing from the times of Ramayana. It is said when the battle with the demon king Ravana then Lakshmana brother of Lord Rama's, were injured with deadly arrow. After a priest diagnosed Lakshmana and said that he needed a particular Sanjeevani herb (booti) and told Sanjeevani herb is
found on the Himalayas. Then Hanuman was sent to get that herb from he lofty mountains. When he reached Himalayas, they did not find Sanjeevani herb. After that he decided dug up the entire mountain and took in him hand and flew back to where Lakshmana was lying injured.
When Sanjeevani herb was gave to Lakshmana then he was cured. After Hanuman went back to place the where he took up the mountain. In the way Hanuman rested on top of the Jakhu hill for some time. Due to weight of Hanuman's, the top of the hill got flattened. Around the place the temple has been built. The temple built on that place where footprints of Hanuman is available.
Yaaku sage was constructed this temple in remembrance of lord Hanuman.
This temple provide the Exelent view of sunrise, mountains and town.The hill is full of paths and narrow roads which are enjoyable walks.
